The main and most famous seaside resort on the Island
Whoever has known the enchantment of its blue, warm and transparent waters and has gilded his body on its incredibly fine white sand, affirms with absolute conviction that Varadero exists to remain forever in the memory of the visitor.
Built on the northernmost point of the island of Cuba, it stretches out on a narrow and elongated peninsula, separated from the mainland by an artificial navigation channel that connects the Strait of Florida to Caibarien Bay, in the western province of Matanzas.
The 22 kilometres of beaches at the seaside resort of Varadero are distinguished by a wide strip of fine white sand and a platform that slopes gently down to the sea, whose warm, clear waters are tinged with an incomparable range of blues. Varadero began to develop as a resort in the 1940s, but it is in the last decade that it has seen unprecedented growth in its hotel and extra-hotel infrastructure, accompanied by the diversification and enhancement of its tourism product.
In addition to its most valuable asset, the beach, there are natural attractions such as caves and escarpments, the proximity of a string of pristine and easily accessible islets, the richness of a characteristic natural landscape protected in the eastern part of the territory, and others of a cultural and historical nature closely linked to two nearby towns: Matanzas and Cardenas.
Furthermore, the presence of the Plaza América Congress Centre reinforces its potential as a convention tourism destination. Varadero, which is a free port, has exceptional conditions for the practice of diving, deep-sea fishing, yachting, and all types of water sports, but the resort also has the privilege of having the only professional golf course (18 holes PAR 72) on the island, and an international parachuting centre.
